Parsippany, NJ, February 13, 2023 — Top 100 accounting, tax and business advisory leader, Sax LLP, has announced the addition of Richard Goldstein, JD to lead the firm’s established State and Local Tax (SALT) practice as Partner, effective January 30, 2023.
Richard brings more than 30 years of experience dedicated exclusively to personal and business state and local tax matters impacting individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts. He focuses on state and local tax consulting, compliance and tax controversy, including audit defense, tax appeals and voluntary disclosures.
Richard has extensive experience with state and local personal income tax, sales and use tax, passthrough entity tax, real estate transfer tax, unincorporated business tax, commercial rent and occupancy taxes, hotel occupancy tax, corporation income and franchise taxes, gross receipts tax and others. He also has extensive experience advising individuals on domicile and residency planning, nonresident income allocation, and advising businesses on state and local tax nexus, income allocation, apportionment, withholding and more.

Prior to joining Sax, Richard worked at accounting and law firms ranging from regional powerhouses to the Big 4. He has advised and represented clients, including national, international, and local businesses, and high-net-worth individuals, including C-Suite level executives, artists, celebrities, lawyers, investment bankers, hedge fund managers, and more.

Richard received his Bachelor of Science in Economics and Policy Analysis from Cornell University and his Doctor of Law from the Fordham University School of Law. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association where he serves on the New York State Taxes Committee, and New York City Taxes Committee. Richard is also a member of the Lawline faculty for Continuing Legal Education, teaching state and local taxes, including Domicile and Residency Planning, Audit Defense and New York Passthrough Entity Tax. He has contributed to the CCH Tax Reporter and has been published in The Tax Advisor.
